What to Pack For a San Francisco Getaway

5 Packing Tips for a Quick & Stylish Trip

Image

When Mike and I had the opportunity to take a quick getaway to San Francisco we jumped at the chance - Thank you to our wonderful parents for taking our kids for the week!

San Francisco is one of America's most stylish cities and requires a wardrobe just as chic to match.   As of late, I am inspired by the adorable Marie Kondo and her motto for packing -  "if an item doesn't spark joy, then don't pack it."  Ugh, minimal packing is difficult to do for a girl who typically has to pay for an oversized bag!  But if I can pack a tidy little carry on- so can you.

Do you have a fun little vacation planned?  Do you find it difficult to know what to pack for an upcoming trip?  Here are my 5 Packing Tips for a Quick & Stylish trip that I follow for every vacation!

5 PACKING TIPS FOR A QUICK & STYLISH TRIP

Tip #1 Check the Weather

Check the weather forecast of your destination so you can pack appropriately.  This is the first step I do prior to planning out my outfits for my getaway.  For our quick trip to San Francisco the weather forecast was a high of 68 and low of 54.  I've traveled to San Francisco several times before so I know that layering ( the weather changes quickly ) and comfy shoes (lots of walking) are a must!

Tip #2 What are your Plans?

What are your plans for your getaway?  Hiking, shopping, concerts, lounging, dinner ( are there any dress codes?).   Our trip to San Francisco was less than 48 hours and our main mission of the trip was to EAT, DRINK & SIGHTSEE!  Which got me thinking of denim, tees, joggers, leather jacket and a little date night dress.

Tip #3 Look for Style Inspiration

Check out Pinterest (or Antlers and Rosé)  for a little style inspo!  I love to check out pinterest, instagram or other bloggers to find some style inspiration for my vacations.  For example, on instagram you can just search #sanfranciscostyle and browse away!

Tip #4 Choose a Color Story

Choose a  "color story".  Pack neutrals, solids, limited patterns in the same color story.  When doing this you should be able to mix and match your pieces creating several looks out of only a few items.  Black, white, beige, navy and red (inspired by the Golden Gate Bridge)  = my color story for San Francisco.

Tip #5 KonMari Method

Packing your suitcase using the Marie Kondo folding style will not only maximize the space of the suitcase (allowing you to travel with a carry-on) but it also keeps the clothing neat and wrinkle-free.

TRAVEL

Your travel outfit needs to be equal parts comfortable and stylish.  I chose these Hudson Jeans  (P.E.101 Edwards) for their comfy stretch, casual white tee (in case I'm hot on the plane), leather jacket (P.E.101 Edwards) for layering, easy on - easy off booties and of course a scarf.

DATE NIGHT #1

We flew into San Francisco around 4pm so we ran to our hotel, The Westin St. Francis, and did a quick outfit change just in time for happy hour at Farallons.  I traded in my white tee for a beige silk cami (P.E.101 Edwards) and my booties for a pair of block heels.  When you pack efficiently, outfit changes are easy!  Thank you #mariekondo.

DAY / LIESURE

On our second day we walked around the city to shop & sightsee!  Obviously comfy shoes and clothing are a must.  But remember, comfy doesn't have to mean sloppy.  I love these blue joggers (P.E.101 Edwards) styled with a leather jacket (P.E.101 Edwards) and adidas sneakers.  Comfortable and Stylish.

DAY NIGHT #2

On our last night in San Francisco we headed down to the bay area for dinner at The WaterBar   (holy delicious oysters) and dessert at Epic Steak.  I LOVE this little red slip dress (P.E.101 Edwards, CO) and I can see it styled a million of different ways.  Here I kept it a little more "city" pairing it with my leather jacket, booties and a scarf.  But I can't wait to wear it a little more casual with a denim jacket and converse shoes!
